Costco Wholesale will add 33 new warehouses in fiscal year 2027, CEO Ron Vachris said Thursday during the company's earnings call for the just-completed 2026 fiscal year. Five of those will be relocations, meaning the net new store count will be 28—just shy of Costco's stated goal of 30 net new warehouses annually.

The expansion will be geographically diverse. Four of the new locations are planned for Europe, five for Canada, and one for Mexico. Vachris also highlighted domestic growth opportunities, pointing to new U.S. markets such as Buffalo, New York, and Lawrence, Kansas, as well as infill projects in mature U.S. markets and additional international locations.

US stocks finished the week higher as oil prices cooled, though a jump in bond yields and inflation expectations kept gains in check.

"We continue to see significant opportunities for new warehouse growth," Vachris said on the call, according to a transcript. He added that the company is pursuing "new U.S. markets such as Buffalo, New York, and Lawrence, Kansas, infills in our more mature U.S. markets, as well as international markets in which we operate."

Costco has already disclosed the first 14 locations on its opening schedule, all slated to open in late 2026:

  • Lee's Summit, Missouri (October 2026)
  • The Colony, Texas (October 2026)
  • Amherst, New York (October 2026)
  • Lawrence, Kansas (October 2026)
  • Camarillo, California (October 2026)
  • South Meridian, Idaho (November 2026)
  • Vallejo, California (November 2026)
  • Chandler, Arizona (Business Center location, November 2026)
  • Northeast Edmonton, Alberta (November 2026)
  • Lloydminster, Alberta (November 2026)
  • East Windsor, Ontario (November 2026)
  • Wasaga Beach, Ontario (November 2026)
  • Newport News, Virginia (November 2026)
  • Franklin, Wisconsin (November 2026)

The remaining 19 locations will be announced later. Costco typically does not comment on openings more than three months in advance, according to the New York Post. However, local reporting indicates the company is actively pursuing additional sites. Downey, California, approved a plan for a new Costco earlier this year. Plans have also been submitted in Charleston County, South Carolina, and Hillsborough County, Florida. Other efforts are underway in Fresno, California; Lake St. Louis, Missouri; Southborough, Massachusetts; Silver Spring, Maryland; Scottsdale, Arizona; and Des Plaines, Illinois, the last of which is expected to be a business center.

The expansion comes amid a broader growth push by the retailer. Costco has already opened stores this year in Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin, as well as in Mexico and Taiwan. The company's aggressive expansion mirrors moves by other large retailers; for instance, Buc-ee's is accelerating its expansion with new locations and first-ever state entries.

Costco's growth strategy also carries financial implications for its members. Recently, Costco raised motor oil prices nearly 100% and capped purchases amid a crude surge. Meanwhile, the company continues to offer promotions to its customer base, such as shop cards for P&G purchases.

As Costco pushes into new territories, it will face the same competitive and economic pressures as other retailers. The company's ability to execute its expansion plan will depend on site selection, construction timelines, and consumer demand in both established and emerging markets.
