Comcast has restored Xfinity services across the country after a system update caused a short-lived but widespread outage on Monday afternoon, leaving tens of thousands of customers without cable TV and internet access.

According to outage tracking site Downdetector, reports of service disruptions began flooding in just before 4 p.m. Eastern Time, with the East Coast experiencing the heaviest concentration of issues. At the height of the outage, 26,278 users had logged complaints about Comcast services.

Reports of service restoration began emerging around 4:25 p.m., as the number of outage reports peaked. By Monday evening, Comcast declared the issue resolved.

“Our customers are now up and running after a very brief interruption to their services due to a system update,” a Comcast spokesperson told Nexstar in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

The outage is the latest in a series of high-profile service disruptions affecting major platforms. Earlier this month, a DoorDash outage hit thousands of users, and a global outage struck Meta's Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, underscoring the fragility of digital infrastructure in an increasingly connected world.

While Comcast’s outage was brief, it highlights how even routine system updates can cascade into significant service interruptions. For a company that serves millions of households, the incident raises questions about the robustness of update protocols and the transparency of communication during such events.

As of Monday evening, all services appeared to be functioning normally, and Comcast did not indicate any residual issues. The company has not disclosed the specific nature of the system update that triggered the disruption.
