The Pima County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that deputies were investigating human remains found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona. The department posted on social platform X that Search & Rescue deputies were responding to the scene.
In the same statement, officials said there was "no indication" the remains were connected to the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. However, they noted the remains "appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time."
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe she was abducted from her home in the early morning hours. The case remains unsolved, with no named suspects or persons of interest.
Earlier this month, the search for Guthrie surpassed the six-month mark. In an effort to generate new leads, authorities recently released the text of ransom notes in the case. The notes suggested that Guthrie had accidentally died and was "buried in nature."
