The Pima County Sheriff's Office reported Monday that deputies were investigating human remains found in a desert area near West Ajo Way and South La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona. The department posted on social platform X that Search & Rescue deputies were responding to the scene.

In the same statement, officials said there was "no indication" the remains were connected to the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. However, they noted the remains "appear to have been at the location for an extended period of time."

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of "Today" show host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe she was abducted from her home in the early morning hours. The case remains unsolved, with no named suspects or persons of interest.

Earlier this month, the search for Guthrie surpassed the six-month mark. In an effort to generate new leads, authorities recently released the text of ransom notes in the case. The notes suggested that Guthrie had accidentally died and was "buried in nature."

The Guthrie family has offered a $1 million reward for information leading to answers. The FBI has added $100,000, and 88-CRIME is offering an additional $102,500. Anyone with information is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900.

This discovery comes as the Guthrie family continues to press for public assistance. They recently renewed their plea for clues after the ransom notes surfaced, hoping that someone might recognize the handwriting or other details.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office has not released further details about the remains, and an investigation is ongoing. It remains unclear how long the remains had been in the desert area.

For now, the focus remains on finding Nancy Guthrie, with the reward money and the FBI's involvement underscoring the seriousness of the case. The family and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
