Rob Reiner, the acclaimed actor and director, and his wife Michele, a photographer and producer, were found stabbed to death in their Southern California home in December 2025. The case took a shocking turn when their son, Nick Reiner, who lived with them, was arrested and later charged with their murders.
Jake recalled the harrowing phone call from his sister, Romy, who discovered the scene. “Romy told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,’” he said. “My parents had unconditional love for all three of us,” Jake said, emphasizing the closeness the family once shared. He also spoke of the double loss he feels: “I physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. And now it’s me and Romy.”
Nick Reiner was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on two counts of murder, with special circumstance allegations of multiple murders and murder by lying in wait. The indictment bypasses a preliminary hearing, moving the case directly to trial. Prosecutors had previously charged him with first-degree murder, but the added enhancement—alleging he lay in wait—could make him eligible for the death penalty or life without parole if convicted.
