Eric Trump, the president's son, said Tuesday that an older Air Force One aircraft will be displayed at his father's presidential library in Miami, contradicting the president's earlier assertion that the new Qatari-gifted Boeing 747-8 would go there.

In a text message to NBC News, Eric Trump said displaying the new jet in Miami is "not the plan at the moment." He echoed that in an interview with the Palm Beach Post, saying an older, retired Air Force One will be placed "in the base of that" building. He specified that the Boeing 747-200, tail number 2900, will be housed there.

He described the library complex as a skyscraper being constructed "around a 747," noting that "wings will have to come off in order to just sneak it in there, but we'll make it happen." He pointed to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California as a precedent, where a Boeing 707 Air Force One is displayed in a large pavilion.

A White House official told The Hill that no final decision has been made on the aircraft's fate. The president had previously said the new plane would go "directly to the library after I leave office," with his foundation taking possession at the end of his term in 2029. The new jet was intended as a stopgap until Boeing delivers two new Air Force One planes in 2028.

The new aircraft, which cost $400 million, features a distinctive paint scheme of dark blue, gold, and red. Trump first flew on it last month to North Dakota, calling it "the world's most luxurious plane" and saying it was "maxed out" with upgrades.

However, concerns have been raised about the jet's security capabilities, especially after Trump used an older Air Force One for a trip to Turkey amid threats from Iran. Lawmakers and officials have questioned whether the Qatari-gifted plane includes sufficient defensive measures.

Presidential libraries often showcase vehicles used by former presidents. For example, the Richard Nixon library displays a Marine One helicopter, while Wilson and Johnson's libraries feature their automobiles. The Miami library's plan to incorporate a retired Air Force One follows that tradition.
