Republican Ed Gallrein, a retired Navy SEAL and farmer, is projected to win the race for Kentucky's 4th Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ. Gallrein, who received President Trump's endorsement, defeated Democrat Melissa Strange and Libertarian Jeremy Todd in Tuesday's election.

Gallrein's victory comes after he ousted incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie in the GOP primary in May, securing 54.9% of the vote to Massie's 45.1%. Massie, a frequent critic of Trump, has clashed with the president over issues including war powers resolutions targeting Iran and legislation to release Jeffrey Epstein files, and he opposed GOP-backed spending bills.

Wasserman Schultz projected to win Florida's 20th District seat
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is projected to win Florida's 20th Congressional District, defeating Republican Brent Andersen by a wide margin, per Decision Desk HQ.

Gallrein ran on a platform aligned with Trump's agenda, including completing the border wall, funding Border Patrol and ICE, and opposing what he calls the "woke" agenda. His campaign emphasized service, drawing on his military background.

In an interview with KET last month, Gallrein said, "For the same reason I joined the service then, I joined for this campaign now – to serve these folks. When President Trump talked to me back on 17 October in 2025 and told me I needed to serve my district, the party, and my nation again, then I went home, thought about it, prayed on it. He asked me to do that, and then four days later, I declared on 21 October to enter the race…to serve these folks. They deserve that."

When asked if he would pledge blind loyalty to Trump, Gallrein replied, "What I pledge allegiance to is the Constitution and the Lord." He elaborated, "If you look at the oath of the congressperson, and then also the officer oath that I took when I joined the military, as I said at 26 years old, there's two things that I swear to: the Constitution and the Lord. Full stop. That's where my loyalty is. And then, furthermore, to the people I serve, I answer to them. It's as straightforward as that."

The race drew national attention as a test of Trump's influence in GOP primaries, particularly in a district that had been held by a vocal critic. Gallrein's win consolidates Trump's sway over the party, as he continues to back candidates who align with his agenda. The result also highlights the ongoing battles in Kentucky's House races, where Republicans aim to maintain dominance.

Gallrein's victory is part of a broader trend of Trump-endorsed candidates winning primaries, as seen in Kentucky's Senate race, where Trump's endorsement has shaped the field. The president's involvement in down-ballot races continues to reshape the GOP, with candidates like Gallrein benefiting from his backing.

As Gallrein prepares to take office, he will join a Congress where Trump's influence remains a defining force. His stated commitment to the Constitution and his district may be tested as he navigates the demands of the presidency and the needs of his constituents.
