Trump International Airport on Thursday, marking the latest victory in President Trump's campaign to brand iconic structures with his name. The move, signed into law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in March, was celebrated by the state's Republican Party as a tribute to the president.
The Federal Aviation Authority confirmed that travelers will continue to see the airport's current three-letter identifier, PBI, on flight documents until the International Air Transport Association updates the code to DJT on August 18. Airport officials said signage, branding, and public-facing materials will be updated in phases, with no disruptions to airline operations, routes, or schedules.
According to the Palm Beach County Department of Airports, the rebranding project is expected to cost approximately $5.5 million. The state has allocated $2.75 million toward that total, with the remainder drawn from the department's operating budget and capital improvement program.
The airport renaming follows a pattern of similar efforts by the Trump administration. On Thursday afternoon, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled the newly renamed Donald J. Trump Bridge in East Tennessee, posting a photo with Tennessee Republicans beneath the new sign. “In many ways, Tennessee embodies the best of what President Trump is building nationally,” Bessent wrote.
Not all such attempts have succeeded. The president's push to rename the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has sparked controversy and legal challenges. A judge ordered the removal of Trump's name from the center's facade, a decision the administration is appealing.
