Joy Behar, co-host of ABC's The View, tore into New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart this week after the rookie voiced public support for President Donald Trump at a campaign event. Behar didn't mince words, calling the endorsement “the definition of stupidity and racist.”
Dart, 22, introduced Trump at a rally alongside Representative Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) last week, praising the president and calling the appearance an “honor.” Trump responded by complimenting Dart’s physique, saying his legs were “like tree trunks” and joking about whether any woman in the crowd could tackle him.
Behar condemned Dart for “backing a guy like Trump,” pointing to what she described as a long “history of discrimination and racism.” She cited Trump’s housing discrimination cases in the 1970s, his administration’s attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, and “posting pictures of the Obamas as apes” as evidence of a pattern.
“He works in a profession that’s 55 to 60 percent Black,” Behar said, referencing the NFL’s demographic makeup. “That is just the definition of stupidity and racist in my opinion.” Her comments, first flagged by Mediaite, have reignited debate over athletes who align themselves with the president.
The Giants quarterback completed his rookie season last fall and has kept a relatively low political profile until now. His appearance alongside Trump marks a notable foray into partisan politics for a young player still establishing his career.
Trump has long courted athletes and celebrities for public endorsements, frequently inviting them to White House events. He is also planning a UFC fight night near the White House next month as part of “America 250” celebrations and his 80th birthday.
Behar’s criticism echoes broader Democratic attacks on Trump’s record on race, which have intensified as the president continues to push controversial policies. The administration’s foreign policy moves and pressure on diversity standards have drawn sharp lines between the parties.
Dart has not publicly responded to Behar’s remarks. The Giants organization declined to comment on the quarterback’s political activities.
The incident underscores the cultural and political divides that continue to shape public discourse, particularly when sports and politics collide. For now, Dart’s endorsement has made him a flashpoint in the ongoing clash over Trump’s legacy.
