Wyoming voters are casting ballots Tuesday in a primary that will determine the Republican and Democratic nominees for the state's sole U.S. House seat, left vacant by Rep. Harriet Hageman's bid for the Senate.

Hageman, a Republican, is seeking a promotion to the upper chamber, creating a competitive open race in a state that reliably votes red. The GOP field is crowded, with candidates ranging from statewide officeholders to political newcomers.

Sen. Jon Ossoff's feud with President Trump escalates as the White House fires crude insults at the Georgia Democrat, who invoked aide Natalie Harp in his latest attack.

Key Republican contenders

Among the most prominent names is Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, who has built a following among conservative activists. Gray has promoted the baseless claim that the 2020 presidential election was marred by widespread fraud, even traveling to Arizona in 2021 to observe a partisan audit of the results. He won the 2022 Republican primary for secretary of State with an endorsement from former President Trump, but Trump has not weighed in on this House race.

Other Republicans in the contest include former Wyoming and Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Barlow, state Senate President Bo Biteman, military veterans Kevin Christensen and Richard Dodson, conservative activist Steve Friess, policy adviser David Giralt (who worked for outgoing U.S. Sen. Cynthia Lummis), businessman Reid Rasner, and former state Rep. John Romero-Martinez.

The race has drawn attention as part of a broader live coverage of primaries in several states, with results being tracked by DDHQ.

Democratic contest

On the Democratic side, former state Senate Minority Leader Lisa F. Kinney is facing Elena del Real. The winner will advance to the general election, though the Democratic nominee will face an uphill battle in the heavily Republican state.

The primary comes amid heightened national focus on Wyoming's GOP governor primary, which is testing the influence of Trump's endorsement in another open race.

Polls close at 9 p.m. EDT. Results will be updated as they come in.
