Horizon Organic Dairy has initiated a voluntary recall of more than 53,000 cases of its chocolate milk, following reports that the product may spoil before its best-by date, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The recall covers specific 8-ounce cartons sold in 12- and 18-packs under the label "Shelf-Stable (Aseptic) 1% Chocolate Milk." The company said it acted after receiving consumer complaints about packaging that appeared "bloated" and contents that could have an unpleasant taste, odor, or texture.
In a media release, Horizon Organic explained that the affected products might undergo premature spoilage, which could compromise quality and safety. The recall was initiated on August 7, and the impacted cartons carry best-by dates of January 2027 and February 2027.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled milk are urged not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a refund. The company also advised contacting Horizon Organic's consumer care line for additional information.
