Left-wing Twitch personality Hasan Piker pronounced Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner's political future over on Monday, calling a new sexual assault allegation the final nail in the coffin for the Democrat's campaign. Piker, reading a Politico report on his stream, highlighted the accuser's documented claims as a 'trifecta' of credibility that he said made the allegations impossible to ignore.

Piker focused on the evidence presented by Maine resident Jenny Racicot, who accused Platner of forcing her to have sex while he was intoxicated in 2021. Racicot's account includes emails with her therapist and messages to a friend who warned her about Platner before he ran for office. 'That is the trifecta of a reliable allegation,' Piker said, adding that the firsthand testimony to a confidante and a therapist made the case 'irredeemable.'

Democrats Abandon Maine Senate Candidate Platner After New Assault Allegation

Racicot went public with her story on CNN's Jake Tapper show Monday night, describing how she pushed Platner away during the incident and that he apologized afterward. Despite the accusation, she said she still agrees with his politics and would vote for him, noting the need for change in the state.

Platner has denied the allegations, calling the Politico reporting inaccurate. He acknowledged the scandal could derail his campaign, saying he would 'reflect on the best path forward' for Maine and the goal of defeating Republican Senator Susan Collins.

The fallout was swift: Rep. Ro Khanna, Sen. Ruben Gallego, and the group End Citizens United all yanked their endorsements. Florida Senate candidate Alex Vindman and Rep. Ritchie Torres called on Platner to drop out. The Maine Democratic Party officially urged him to withdraw, stating that multiple women have made 'serious, credible allegations' against him.

This is not the first controversy to hit Platner's campaign. Earlier this year, a New York Times article detailed complaints from women he dated, and a separate report revealed a Nazi tattoo from his past. The latest accusation, however, appears to have crossed a line for party leaders already wary of his electability. A recent Fox poll showed Collins holding a narrow lead, and Republicans have been hammering the Platner campaign over his scandals.

If Platner steps aside, Democrats face a difficult choice: find a replacement quickly or risk losing a seat seen as winnable. The race for Collins's seat has become a national proxy fight over the Senate majority, and Platner's collapse could hand the GOP an advantage.
