Social media personality Dan Bilzerian has formally entered the race for Florida's 6th Congressional District, filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday to challenge incumbent Republican Representative Randy Fine. Bilzerian, who boasts tens of millions of followers across platforms, will compete in the GOP primary for the seat encompassing areas including Palm Coast and Daytona Beach.

The FEC filing lists an address matching that of Lake County Commissioner Anthony Sabatini's law firm. Sabatini confirmed to The World Signal that Bilzerian is launching a congressional campaign, following through on statements the influencer made earlier this month to local Florida media.

Controversial Background and Antisemitic Posts

Bilzerian's candidacy is immediately complicated by his history of making antisemitic statements on social media. He has previously targeted Fine, who is Jewish, over his religion and his stance on Israel. This history presents a significant hurdle in a Republican primary, particularly against an incumbent who has positioned himself as a staunch defender of Jewish interests and a close ally of Israel.

Further complicating his bid, Bilzerian has been openly critical of former President Donald Trump, a likely political liability in a district Trump carried by approximately 30 points in the last election. In a recent social media post, Bilzerian attacked Trump's handling of tensions with Iran, calling the former president an "extreme narcissist" and suggesting he would escalate conflict for personal reasons. This criticism aligns with broader political tensions, similar to when a Democrat filed impeachment articles against Trump over Iran war threats.

Incumbent Response and Trump Endorsement

Fine's campaign swiftly responded to the filing by highlighting the incumbent's strong relationship with Trump. A campaign spokesman noted that Fine is "the only person in America that President Trump has endorsed three times in the past two years," including in his current reelection effort. The statement emphasized Fine's role as one of Trump's "greatest allies" and vowed he would "never back down in the face of any effort to impeach President Trump."

Fine is serving his first full term after winning a special election to fill the seat vacated by former U.N. Ambassador Michael Waltz. His alignment with Trump remains a central pillar of his political identity in a deeply conservative district, though the state legislature is currently considering changes to Florida's congressional map.

Bilzerian's criticism of Trump places him at odds with the district's dominant political force. His comments on Iran came before Trump announced a temporary de-escalation with the country, a foreign policy move that has drawn varied reactions, including strong condemnation from some conservative commentators.

Steep Climb in a Red District

Political analysts view Bilzerian's challenge as an uphill battle. The district's strong Republican lean, combined with Fine's incumbency and triple endorsement from Trump, creates a formidable advantage for the sitting congressman. Bilzerian's national notoriety, built on a brand of lavish lifestyle and provocative content, is untested in the arena of retail Florida politics.

The primary is set for August 18, giving Bilzerian a short window to build a traditional campaign apparatus and overcome his controversial digital footprint. His candidacy adds another layer to Florida's dynamic political landscape, which has recently seen controversial state legislation granting officials new powers regarding campus groups. The race will test whether a social media influencer with a history of attacking both his opponent's faith and his own party's standard-bearer can gain traction in a primary where loyalty to Trump is often the paramount currency.
