Federal agents executed a search warrant Wednesday morning at the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas (D), a key ally of Governor Abigail Spanberger, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press.

Multiple FBI vehicles were spotted outside Lucas’s Portsmouth office, WAVY, a Nexstar affiliate, reported. The outlet also noted law enforcement activity at a nearby cannabis store co-owned by Lucas.

Texas Man Fires at Secret Service Near Washington Monument, Hits Bystander
A Texas man opened fire on Secret Service officers near the Washington Monument, wounding a bystander, and now faces federal charges.

The FBI Norfolk field office confirmed in a statement that agents were carrying out a “court-authorized federal search warrant” in Portsmouth but declined to elaborate. “There is no threat to public safety,” a spokesperson said. “This is an ongoing investigation and no further information is publicly available at this time.”

Federal law enforcement sources told Fox News the raid is linked to a “major corruption probe.”

Lucas’s daughter, Lisa, was present at the office during the raid and told WAVY she did not know why the FBI was there, only that it was not related to healthcare.

Lucas, 82, is a prominent figure in Virginia politics and a vocal advocate for redistricting. She helped push a ballot referendum last month that voters approved, allowing congressional maps to be redrawn to favor Democrats in 10 of the state’s 11 House districts. Democrats currently hold a 6-5 edge in Virginia’s congressional delegation.

The raid comes amid broader scrutiny of ethics in Virginia politics. A recent Pew poll found that 56% of Americans believe federal ethics have declined under President Donald Trump’s second term, though the Lucas investigation is at the state level.

The Hill has reached out to Lucas’s office for comment. The investigation remains ongoing.
