Critics view these facilities as noisy, energy-hungry eyesores that strain local water and power supplies. While some jobs will be automated, AI is also expected to create new roles, and human oversight remains essential.

Isaacman's support for orbital data centers is both politically astute and ideologically consistent. He has long advocated for a NASA-led expansion of human civilization beyond Earth, and a lunar economy based on mining and manufacturing could secure lasting support for space exploration, unlike purely scientific missions. As noted in his recent comments on orbital data centers, the move could circumvent domestic opposition.
