Apple has begun accepting claims in a $250 million class action settlement over allegations that its Siri and Apple Intelligence features underdelivered. Eligible iPhone owners could receive up to $95 per device, depending on the number of claims filed.
The settlement stems from a lawsuit filed earlier this year accusing Apple of misleading consumers about the capabilities of Apple Intelligence when it was unveiled in 2024. Plaintiffs claimed that several features touted at launch were not immediately available when the iPhone 16 shipped later that year.
Apple has denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid prolonged litigation. In a statement, an Apple spokesperson said: "Since the launch of Apple Intelligence, we have introduced dozens of features across many languages that are integrated across Apple's platforms, relevant to what users do every day, and built with privacy protections at every step." The spokesperson added that the settlement resolves "claims related to the availability of two additional features" and allows Apple to "stay focused on doing what we do best."
Who is eligible?
The settlement covers roughly 37 million devices purchased in the U.S. between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025. That includes all iPhone 16 models and the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Apple Intelligence features are only available on these models and the iPhone 17 lineup, but iPhone 17 devices were not sold during the eligible period.
If you bought a qualifying iPhone in that window, you could receive $25 per device. That amount could rise to $95 depending on how many claims are filed and other factors, according to court documents.
How to file a claim
Eligible class members should receive an email with a claim ID and PIN. If you believe you qualify but didn't get an email, you can still file a claim online at smartphoneaisettlement.com. You may need your device's serial number, which you can find under Settings > General > About. You can submit a claim for each qualifying device you own.
Payment details
When filing, you can choose to receive payment by paper check, PayPal, Venmo, or digital check. The payment timeline is uncertain. An approval hearing is set for Feb. 24, 2027, though that date could shift. If no appeals are filed, payments will be processed promptly, administrators say.
Deadline and other notes
You have until Dec. 21, 2026, to file a claim, object, or opt out of the settlement.
This settlement comes amid broader scrutiny of tech companies' marketing practices. Meanwhile, political figures have weighed in on AI claims, with some lawmakers pushing back against dismissive remarks about AI's impact.
